Sequential Geometry

Sequential Geometry 2400 1602 Daniel Stuelpnagel

In sequence, these paintings vary in size from 24″ squares to 30″ squares, and the larger pieces tend to be a bit more spare in compositional complexity, although as I move forward I am revisiting and reworking some of these pieces with more layers.

I recently diversified the intervals of lines by using a more extensive array of tape widths, seven different intervals, 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″, 3/4″, 1″, 1 1/2″ and 2″ tape, so as I’ve scaled up and worked in series of various squares I find more room to create really intricate and diverse compositions in the 24″ squares especially, the previous year I was working mostly in 18″ squares and even 12″ squares which didn’t really provide enough real estate to expand the composition as much as I would like, however that compression and subsequent expansion has offered a really nice trajectory for the work.
