Monument Sotheby’s International Realty hosted an exhibition of a dozen of my paintings in autumn 2018, organized by my friend and art consultant Kathleen Hamill, who is Director of Contemporary and Modern Art for Alex Cooper Auctioneers.
Site-specific in a very fun and challenging way, I love the decor and the champagne-toned wall fabric, the geometric bronze light fixtures, I’d been wanting to show there since they began their program with Kathleen’s guidance several years ago.
I created a series of new paintings with an emphasis on pink, mauve, lavender, Italian earth tones, bronze and pale yellow, metallics and other colors to really resonate with this very special space.
At least two of the paintings responded directly to the lighting elements in both composition and color, the installation was spacious enough that the overall effect is fairly subtle yet lovely in the way it ties the collection together with the very particular elements of the interior design, and this is a process I’ve employed numerous times in residential, corporate and gallery installations, a sort of feng shui with art works that are part of my unique lexicon.
Every space is different, and it’s been a great benefit for me to be prolific enough that I generally have plenty of paintings to choose from in curating a collection such as this.
